The Story

In “Angela,” a comedic yet poignant film, we meet Crawford Baxter, a 38-year-old man who’s awkward, nervous, and hoping for love. He meets Angela, a 30-year-old woman, for a date at a local pub, initiating a series of mishaps and miscommunications that reflect the anxieties of modern dating. Crawford’s clumsy attempt at humor and Angela’s candidness about not often dating set the tone for their interaction. As their date unfolds, we’re introduced to side characters and subplots that enrich the narrative, including Crawford’s friend Rufus, who is also navigating the complexities of dating, and Alex, who finds solace and nerves in the women’s bathroom ahead of his own date. Throughout the evening, both Angela and Crawford reveal vulnerabilities, including Angela’s prosthetic leg, which she fears might change Crawford’s perception of her. The story climaxes when Crawford, misunderstanding the “Ask for Angela” safety initiative, finds himself trying to “rescue” Angela, only to be genuinely needed in helping her with her prosthetic leg.
